Borussia Dortmund's Ousmane Dembele wins Bundesliga rookie award

Borussia Dortmund forward Ousmane Dembele has been named the Bundesliga's Rookie of the Season.

Dembele, 19, joined Dortmund from Rennes last summer and went on to score six goals and register 13 assists in 32 Bundesliga appearances as the club finished third in the table.

He also scored as Dortmund beat Eintracht Frankfurt in the DFB Pokal final, while becoming a full international for France.

Dembele beat Schalke's Nabil Bentaleb, Wolfsburg's Riechedly Bazoer, Freiburg's Caglar Soyuncu and Hertha Berlin's Jordan Torunarigha in the vote, which was contested by the five 2017 winners of the Bundesliga Rookie of the Month award. Demebele was named February Rookie of the Month.

In a recent interview with L'Equipe, Dembele, who has been linked with summer moves to Barcelona and Manchester United, said he wants to continue developing his talents at Dortmund.

"Germany, when you're a young player, is the best," Dembele said. "There are lots of young talents here, and people have faith in them.

"Being in the first team [at Dortmund] allows me to get more and more experience. But I'm going to keep working."

In a separate interview earlier this month, Dembele also said he is not thinking about a transfer amid the reported interest from Barca and United.
