Julian Weigl ready to impress at Borussia Dortmund after 1860 exit

New Borussia Dortmund signing Julian Weigl is confident he can make the step up to the Bundesliga and impress at the Westfalenstadion.

Earlier this month, Dortmund announced the signing of Weigl on a four-year contract from 2. Bundesliga side 1860 Munich for an undisclosed fee.

The 19-year-old told Goal: "I think I am ready for the next step, to show my qualities on the highest level. It was my dream to play in Bundesliga and BVB gives me that opportunity."

It was new Dortmund head coach Thomas Tuchel who convinced Weigl to leave 1860 Munich after nine years with the club.

He said: "I had good conversations with Thomas Tuchel and I think he can develop me further.

"It is an honour to be trained by him. The project outlined to me was what convinced me. The coach told me about the plans he has for me. He made it clear, that he wanted to work with me.

"I need to toughen up and I already talked about that to coach Tuchel. I wil undergo a special athletics training to get more robust."
