Marco Reus targets Bundesliga title after signing new Dortmund contract

Marco Reus has told kicker he is determined to win the Bundesliga title with Borussia Dortmund, having recently signed a new contract with the club.

Earlier this month, Reus put pen to paper on a deal that ties him to Dortmund to 2019, following intense speculation regarding his future amid reports of interest from several sides.

The Germany international has explained that he feels "free" to express himself at Westfalenstadion was a key reason why he committed to the club, despite their struggles in the league this season.

"I have made the decision because Borussia is what's best for me. Dortmund is my home, my family lives here, I've got many friends here. And on a side note there is also a life beside football," Reus said.

"When I am free, I can access my potential best. And I have that feeling at BVB: I am a free.

"This [winning the Bundesliga] is and will remain my big goal. I want to experience whatever happens in this city then. I give it my all for that. And I have the big and strong feeling that we will achieve that someday."

With the rumours of a possible exit having not stopped despite Reus' new contract, which the attacker called "a decision for life," the German reiterated that he has no plans to leave Dortmund in the near future, or at all.

"From my current perspective there is no reason to think anything else," he said. "A lot can happen until then [2019], but I wanted clarity for the next couple of years. We'll see what happens after that."

Despite Dortmund's recent revival in Bundesliga, which has seen them move off the bottom of the league to 12th in the standings, BVB look set to miss out on Champions League football in the upcoming season.

Reus, though, noted that other high-profile teams have missed out on participating in Europe's premier competition competition "for one or two years to make the next big step after that."

"And that's why it wouldn't hurt that much. Should we not manage it, it would be our job to secure a return in the year after that. This club deserve it."

He added that the way BVB have handled a disappointing season "impressed" him, saying they have remained "no-nonsense."
