Hans-Joachim Watzke: Dortmund should be in better position in league

Borussia Dortmund CEO Hans-Joachim Watzke remains "100 percent" convinced that Jurgen Klopp is the right coach for the club, but admits there is "no blueprint" for their Bundesliga struggles.

Dortmund have begun their preparations for the second half of the campaign in Spain, with the 2013 Champions League finalists in real danger of relegation as they sit 17th out of 18 sides with just 15 points from 17 games.

While Watzke knows a relegation battle is uncharted territory for Klopp and Dortmund of late, he remains confident that BVB can survive the drop, and says staying in the top flight is now the club's main target.

"There's no blueprint for the situation we are in at the moment," he said in La Manga, Spain. "I still think that Jurgen Klopp is an excellent coach. It would be strange to say otherwise after the last six or seven years.

"I'm still 100 percent convinced that he's the right man. If you go from one success to another for six years, then it may happen that things go in a different direction for a while."

Despite a disastrous first half of the 2014-15 season, Watzke says the club have yet to decide whether any changes in personnel will be made.

"A close analysis doesn't necessarily mean that heads will roll," he continued. "But with the squad available, we should find ourselves in a better position. We are still not going to reveal the depth of our analysis to the public.

"Our goal is to avoid relegation, and in such a way that we can later chalk it up as an accomplishment."

The CEO also added that following the arrival of Red Bull Salzburg midfielder Kevin Kampl on Jan. 1, further signings during the winter break were "very unlikely, but not impossible."
