Ilkay Gundogan plays for Dortmund reserves, set for first-team comeback

Borussia Dortmund have been handed an injury boost after Ilkay Gundogan featured for the club's reserves, with the midfielder in contention to make his comeback against Cologne after 14 months out on the sidelines.

Gundogan was one of a quartet of previously injured midfielders to play in the 3-2 victory over fourth-tier outfit Viktoria Cologne on Tuesday, along with Henrikh Mkhitaryan, Marco Reus and Sebastian Kehl.

Reus and Mkhitaryan were both on target in the game and Gundogan, playing his second test match after a lengthy spell out with a back problem, hit the post.

Dortmund boss Jurgen Klopp was also able to field Neven Subotic -- who recently decided against playing for Serbia for the time being -- as well as Ji Dong-Won, Kevin Grosskreutz and Sven Bender.

Klopp's side currently sit 13th in the Bundesliga and have only picked up seven points in as many games after a poor start to their domestic campaign.

Dortmund will hope to get their form back on track on Saturday when they travel to Cologne.
