Bordeaux ban Jerome Prior and Lamine Sane amid reports of fight

Jerome Prior and Lamine Sane have been suspended by Bordeaux in the wake of an apparent dressing-room bust-up following their Coupe de France loss against Nantes on Wednesday.

Bordeaux led 3-2 in extra-time of their last-16 tie before Nantes struck twice late on to book a quarterfinal meeting with Ligue 2 side Sochaux next month.

L'Equipe reported that Prior, 20, and Sane, 28, came to blows in the aftermath of the clash -- and that Sane was wearing a bandage on one hand afterwards -- with Bordeaux announcing on Thursday that they had suspended both players indefinitely.

"Following the serious incidents that occurred in the dressing room after the Coupe de France match against FC Nantes, Jerome Prior and Lamine Sane were suspended indefinitely," a club statement read.

"No other communication will be made on this subject and no one will respond in any interview to this decision."

Bordeaux coach Willy Sagnol gave a news conference to preview Saturday's match against Guingamp, but the subject of the suspensions and what took place in the dressing room was unavoidable.

"What has happened doesn't reflect tensions in the dressing room," Sagnol said. "It's an isolated event, unique since my arrival."

Sagnol added he would have a strong say in any further punishment.

"This type of thing isn't so rare in a club," he said. "The only thing that interests me is to remobilise everyone ahead of the match against Guingamp."

In the absence of injured No. 1 Cedric Carrasso, Prior was facing competition for a starting position as goalkeeper with new signing Paul Bernardoni.

He has already been suspended for two games in January after clashing with fans in October and club technical staff last month.

Centre-back Sane wore the captain's armband earlier in the season before suffering a knee injury. He had been linked with a move to England or Turkey during the last transfer window.

Bordeaux have now lost all three matches they have played in February -- conceding 11 goals in the process. Last month, they were beaten 5-1 by Lille in the semifinals of the Coupe de la Ligue.
