Neil Lennon named Bolton Wanderers boss

Bolton Wanderers have confirmed the appointment of Neil Lennon as their new manager.

On Saturday, sources had told ESPN FC that Lennon, who left Celtic at the end of last season, was in pole position to take charge of the Championship strugglers despite Chris Hughton expressing interest in the post.

Bolton said on their official website that Lennon was the "unanimous" choice to lead the club despite an "extensive list of high-calibre applicants."

He replaces Dougie Freedman, who left the club by mutual consent earlier this month, and will be joined by assistant manager Johan Mjallby and first-team coach Garry Parker at the Reebok Stadium.

Bolton are currently at the foot of the Championship, having taken just five points from their opening 11 games.
