Sources: Neil Lennon close to landing Bolton job

Neil Lennon is in pole position to be named as the next manager of Championship strugglers Bolton Wanderers, sources have told ESPN FC.

Former Celtic manager Lennon has emerged as the favourite for the Reebok Stadium job despite ex-Newcastle and Norwich boss Chris Hughton holding talks with Bolton in recent days.

Lennon left Celtic in the summer after suggesting he had taken the club as far as he could and has also been linked with the managerial vacancy at Fulham, which is another job Hughton is interested in.

Bolton are keen to finalise an appointment before the resumption of domestic club football next weekend, with Lennon set to learn by Monday whether he is the man to take over from Dougie Freedman, who was sacked after a poor start to the season.
