Carlos Tevez: Boca Juniors' title success was driven by team's hunger

Boca Juniors sealed their 25th Argentine Primera Division success on Sunday and striker Carlos Tevez praised the desire of his teammates.

Fabian Monzon's header helped Boca to a 1-0 win over Tigre in Buenos Aires as the club picked up their first league title since the 2011 Apertura.

Tevez, 31, returned to his hometown club in the summer after two years at Juventus with the fee of €6.5 million to be paid by Boca in a one-off payment on Dec. 15, 2016.

The striker netted five goals in 12 league games to help Boca to the trophy by putting them six points clear with one game remaining.

"These guys needed this championship. From now on it's going to be a new Boca," Tevez said. "I've left many sides a champion, but this feeling is unexplainable.

"This is why I came back. I came to feel this emotion again. It gives me such happiness to be able to enjoy this title with my family and my teammates.

"This group needed and deserved a title because they are coming from tough years. This team were hungry, maybe sometimes they didn't know how to play one match or another, but it was the hunger that drove them to get this."
