Mario Mandzukic gets the drinks in for Croatia for World Cup win over Russia

Mario Mandzukic has sealed his place as a hero of the people by laying on free drinks for the residents of his hometown during Croatia's World Cup quarterfinal win over Russia.

Thanks to the Juventus striker, everybody back home in the town of Slavonski Brod was able to quaff complimentary beverages, eventually running up an impressive bar tab while Croatia edged out the hosts on penalties.

According to Croatian news site 24Sata, Mandzukic paid 25,000 kuna (approximately €3,400) toward the bill, which was amassed by several hundred fans watching the game on big screens in the grounds of Brod Fortress.

This isn't the first time Mandzukic has given back to his community either, with the 32-year-old having previously donated €20,000 to local firefighters last year.

Croatia are set to take on England in the semifinals though whether their target man intends to foot the beer bill again remains to be seen.
