Leeds admit defeat over badge after day of online mockery

Leeds have been urged to scrap their Myanmar trip.
Think we'll see this badge again soon at Leeds United?

After a wearying day spent as the butt of everybody's joke, Leeds United have admitted defeat over their new club crest and vowed to return to the drawing board.

The Championship side unveiled their new "Salute" design on Wednesday morning, only for it to take a matter of seconds for the relentless mockery to begin.

It would also appear as though Leeds have been pilloried into submission, with managing director Angus Kinnear forced to step forth as the public face of the club's embarrassing U-turn.

Kinnear appeared on BBC Radio Leeds where, using an impressive array of marketing jargon, he proceeded to announce that the Elland Road club will be "re-opening the design consultation" phase of their badge revamp.

Basically, they're ripping up the new crest and quite literally returning to the drawing board.

"We always knew that the introduction of a crest, particularly one that is so bold and such a break away from the traditional conventions of football club crests, was going to create debate and may be controversial," said Kinnear.

"We had confidence in the process we went through to arrive at the design but today we've been overwhelmed by the feedback.

From my perspective it's exactly why I love working for this club because the passion and enthusiasm and the commitment of the fanbase is quite astounding."

Yes, that's certainly one way of wording it.
