Bizarre drone stoppage allows Crawley time to regroup, find winner

Huish Park was the site of a bizarre drone stoppage on New Year's Day.

Crawley Town benefitted from an extra break when a drone spotted above the pitch delayed their League Two game at Yeovil by about 10 minutes on Monday.

The match was level at 1-1 but the hosts were down to nine men when the officials stopped play in the 80th minute and the players came off after the security breach.

The drone eventually flew off, and after play resumed Crawley were able to find a late winner. Their manager Harry Kewell -- the former Australia star -- said the interruption gave him a unique opportunity.

"I've never seen that before in my life," Kewell told "It probably worked in my favour when the drone came. It gave me a chance to get my boys and ask, 'What are you doing? That wasn't the plan.'

"When we got back we started playing football again, we got one or two chances and then we got the goal."

Unlike the 2015 drone incident that caused an Albania-Serbia game to be abandoned, no violence followed at Huish Park, but the drone's owner might not escape unscathed -- Yeovil said they would "work with Avon & Somerset Police" to find the perpetrator.
