Sutton's 'roly-poly goalie' Wayne Shaw asked to pose for nude photo shoot

Sutton United are preparing themselves for the biggest match in the club's storied history, namely Monday night's FA Cup fifth-round tie against Premier League big wigs Arsenal.

Indeed, by the looks of things, all the stops are being pulled out at Gander Green Lane for the occasion.

One man relishing the attention is Sutton's rotund reserve goalkeeper Wayne Shaw who has become something of a breakout star during the course of the U's remarkable cup run despite not playing a single minute of it so far.

At 45 years old and 20 stone in weight, Shaw is the literal embodiment of the non-league dream, and the former ice cream man is taking his newfound fame in his stride.

"I've done nothing but sit there and be myself. Turns out I'm a big guy who people seem to want to look at," he told the Daily Mail.

"A publication asked if they can photograph me naked. Like, everything off, except a pair of goalie gloves, apparently.

"Not sure what I'll say to them. It's definitely the strangest thing that's happened to me in all this."

Shaw also made sure to casually mention in passing that he once played alongside a bona fide Premier League legend during his younger days.

"I wasn't meant to be a goalkeeper. I was a striker on associate schoolboy forms at Southampton," he continued.

"I remember going to a tournament in Sweden with Alan Shearer in our team."

Sure enough, photographic evidence does exist, with Shaw himself once posting a photo of himself and Shearer as boys, rubbing shoulders together (top row, first and second from the right) at Wellington Sports.

Shearer isn't the only member of Blackburn's Premier League-winning squad that Shaw played alongside as a boy either, with Jeff Kenna (bottom right) also slipping into the photo.

While it's fair to say that Shaw and Shearer had very different career paths thereafter, it's testament to the FA Cup that the latter is still enjoying the limelight while the latter is long retired.

It is a little bit magical really, isn't it?
