Clint Dempsey tears up ref's notebook, Seattle finish with seven men

Exactly one year after scoring for the United States in the World Cup vs. Ghana, Clint Dempsey showed what he thinks of soccer's rule book.

The incident took place in a quite incredible U.S. Open Cup tie on Tuesday, which saw the Portland Timbers beat the Seattle Sounders 3-1.

But the scoreline tells you little of what happened as Seattle -- the cup holders -- finished the game with just seven players.

Yup, seven.

Brad Evans was sent off in the 69th minute for a second yellow card, then Obafemi Martins was taken off on a stretcher. Seattle had used all three of their substitutions, so it had to play with nine.

In extra time, Seattle's Michael Aziri was shown a straight red card. Moments later, Dempsey got one yellow, then a red and then proceeded to tear things up.
