Mario Gomez has parted ways with JDT just a couple of days before the start of the 2017 season.

Benjamin Mora has been promoted as Johor Darul Ta'zim (JDT) new head coach following the departure of Mario Gomez on Wednesday, and will immediately get down to business ahead of the Charity Shield against Kedah on Friday.

Mora, who went to La Liga heavyweights Atletico Madrid for a month-long stint in November, takes over the reigning Malaysia Super League champions after steering JDT II to third place in the second-tier Premier League in 2016.

Mario Gomez has parted ways with JDT just a couple of days before the start of the 2017 season.

Johor Darul Ta'zim parted ways with their Argentine coach Mario Gomez on Wednesday, just two days before the Malaysia Super League champions face Kedah in the Charity Shield in the 2017 season opener.

No reason was given for the silver-haired coach's departure, announced via the club's Southern Tigers Facebook page.

"I would like to announce that JDT and Mario Gomez have mutually agreed to embark on separate paths," JDT president Tunku Tun Aminah Sultan Ibrahim said via a statement.
