Real Madrid aim to keep Champions League run alive vs. Tottenham

Real Madrid and Tottenham Hotspur will vie for control of their group when they meet at the Santiago Bernabeu in the Champions League on Tuesday.

The two teams, level on six points in Group H, each defeated Borussia Dortmund 3-1 and Apoel Nicosia 3-0 last month.

Madrid have not been defeated in their last 16 home games in the Champions League, having won 14 of them, and are unbeaten in their last 11 home games against Premier League teams, winning eight.

They are also unbeaten in their last 29 group-stage games, having last been defeated on Oct. 24, 2012 at Borussia Dortmund.

Tottenham and Madrid have met four times previously, with Madrid winning three of four games -- including both meetings in the Champions League quarterfinals in April 2011 -- and never conceding a goal.

Real Madrid have a 67 percent chance of winning, according to ESPN's Soccer Power Index (SPI).

Real Madrid's Cristiano Ronaldo has scored eight goals in 16 games against Tottenham all-time, including once in each of the two games between Madrid and Spurs in 2011.

If Gareth Bale, who has been recovering from a calf injury, were to play against Tottenham on Tuesday, it would be his first appearance against the club that sold him to Real Madrid for a then-record £86 million transfer fee in 2013.

It would also mark his 50th Champions League appearance, having made nine with Tottenham in the 2010-11 season.

Tottenham's Harry Kane, who has scored seven goals in five Champions League appearances, enters Tuesday having scored 15 goals in his last 11 games for club and country.
