Man City vs. Liverpool -- key takeaways

Stevan Jovetic added two more goals to the pair he scored vs. Liverpool five years ago.

In a meeting of last season's top two teams, defending champion Manchester City cruised by Liverpool 3-1. Here are five notes on Monday's proceedings at Etihad Stadium.

* Stevan Jovetic scored twice for Manchester City, and he now has four goals in two career games against Liverpool. He also had two goals against Liverpool with Fiorentina in the 2009 Champions League group stage at age 19.

* Man City hasn't had trouble scoring against Liverpool lately, striking at least twice in six consecutive meetings in all competitions since January 2012.

* The overall passing numbers were similar on Monday, as Man City completed 57 more passes (523 to 466) at a nearly identical rate (85 percent to 84 percent). But City's class showed deeper in the attacking portion of the field. City completed 79 percent of passes in the attacking third and 8 of 11 passes into the penalty area. Liverpool connected on 67 percent of passes in the attacking third and only 3 of 11 passes into the box.

* Pablo Zabaleta's own goal means that two teams have yet to concede a goal this Premier League season. Tottenham sits atop the league table, having scored five goals and allowed none. Aston Villa is the other team with a spotless defensive record, as American keeper Brad Guzan has made six saves and kept two clean sheets thus far.

* For the second time in two league games this season, Sergio Aguero scored after coming off the bench. He hasn't needed much time to strike in his Premier League career, finding the net every 113 minutes. That's the fewest minutes per goal of any player with at least 15 Premier League goals, ahead of all-time great Thierry Henry, who scored every 122 minutes while tallying 175 times with Arsenal.

Fewest Minutes Per Goal, Premier League History

Sergio Aguero (54 goals): 113 minutes per goal

Thierry Henry (175 goals): 122 minutes per goal

Ruud van Nistelrooy (95 goals): 128 minutes per goal

Javier Hernandez (37 goals): 130 minutes per goal
