Former Melbourne City and Adelaide United winger Iain Ramsay is set to join newly promoted Prachuap FC for their first season in the Thai League in 2018.
The Australian-born Philippines international has been playing in the Philippines Football League with 2017 AFC Cup semifinalists Ceres-Negros FC since the start of this year, but is ready to take on a new challenge in Southeast Asia's top league.
ESPN FC understands that Ramsay will complete the 2017 season with Ceres before making the switch to Prachuap in December ahead of preseason training.
The 29-year-old recently starred in Ceres' journey to the 2017 AFC Cup semifinal -- a run that featured wins over Malaysian champions Johor Darul Ta'zim and Singapore's Home United.
The Thai League is introducing an extra slot in club squads for an ASEAN player in the 2018 season. The signing of Ramsay is an indication that clubs intend to take advantage of this new opportunity.
Ramsay is no stranger to moving around, having travelled to Scotland -- the country of his father's birth -- as a 17-year-old youth player. There he played for Gretna, the club whose first-team squad included future Australian international Erik Paartalu at the time.
Ramsay then returned to Australia and began his A-League career at Sydney FC before joining Adelaide United in 2010 and Melbourne City in 2013.
The left-sided midfielder was eligible to play for the Philippines through his mother's nationality. He earned his first cap for the Azkals in 2015 before making the move to Persian Gulf Pro League club Tractor Sazi in Iran the same year.
After his release from the Iranian club, Ramsay had a spell out of the game before Ceres offered him the chance to revive his career in the country he represents at international level.
Now, Ramsay looks like he will have the opportunity to prove himself in Thailand as he gets set to come up against the likes of Muang Thong United and Buriram United in 2018.
