Bidvest Wits go top as Cape Town City slip up

Bidvest Wits moved to the top of the Absa Premiership standings following a 1-0 win against Mamelodi Sundowns on Monday - at the same time as title contenders Cape Town City slipped up in KZN.

The Students scored the only goal of the game just before the break through Ben Motshwari, who headed home a Sifiso Myeni cross.

Both sides finished with 10 men as Daine Klate and Fares Hachi were sent off late on, but Wits held on for a win which throws the title race. wide open.

With five games remaining, Wits now have 51 points, one better than Sundowns. Cape Town City are a point adrift - having played a game more - following a shock 1-0 defeat to Mritzburg United at Harry Gwala Stadium. The winner came with four minutes remaining - veteran Kurt Lentjies getting the goal.
