Belgium call up Adnan Januzaj, Radja Nainggolan for Mexico, Japan games

Adnan Januzaj and Radja Nainggolan are the high-profile call-ups to the Belgium squad announced by boss Roberto Martinez ahead of this month's friendlies with Mexico and Japan.

After failing to establish himself at Manchester United and underwhelming loan spells at Borussia Dortmund and Sunderland, Januzaj, 22, has suggested he might deliver on his potential since joining Real Sociedad last summer.

With Atletico Madrid's Yannick Carrasco injured, the winger, who has not played for his country since November 2014, has been named in Martinez's 28-man squad for the first time.

"We're following Januzaj closely," Martinez said. "His start to the season is very positive and he can play in a number of positions. Also, Yannick Carrasco is injured, and I think Januzaj can fill his role."

Nainggolan was a conspicuous absence during the last two international breaks, but the Roma midfielder's performances in European competition have convinced Martinez he is worthy of a place in his squad.

"I haven't had contact with Radja, but I've watched him a lot, especially in his two Champions League games against Chelsea," Martinez said. "I have to select the best players possible, and given his current form, he's one of them..."

Alongside Manchester United's Romelu Lukaku, Chelsea's Michy Batshuayi and Liverpool's Divock Origi, who is on loan to Wolfsburg this season, Martinez named another English Premier League striker in Laurent Depoitre.

The 28-year-old Huddersfield Town forward has scored twice in his club's surprisingly good start to the English top-flight season, earning himself a maiden call-up.

Vincent Kompany, Toby Alderweireld, Marouane Fellaini and Christian Benteke -- along with Carrasco -- all miss out through injury.

Full squad: Courtois (Chelsea), Mignolet (Liverpool), Sels (Anderlecht), Casteels (Wolfsburg); Boyata (Celtic), Dendoncker (Anderlecht), Kabasele (Watford), Jordan Lukaku (Lazio), Meunier (Paris Saint-Germain), Vermaelen (Barcelona), Vertonghen (Tottenham); Chadli (West Brom), De Bruyne (Manchester City), Defour (Burnley), Dembele (Tottenham), Eden Hazard (Chelsea), Thorgan Hazard (Borussia Monchengladbach), Januzaj (Real Sociedad), Nainggolan (Roma), Mertens (Napoli), Mirallas (Everton), Tielemans (Monaco), Witsel (Tianjin Quanjian); Michy Batshuayi (Chelsea), Romelu Lukaku (Manchester United), Origi (Wolfsburg) Depoitre (Huddersfield)
