Thorgan Hazard targeting Belgium Euro 2016 spot after Gladbach brace

Borussia Monchengladbach forward Thorgan Hazard hopes his brace in the 5-0 win over Hertha Berlin has boosted his chances of making Belgium's Euro 2016 squad.

Gladbach returned to fourth in the Bundesliga after Sunday's victory over Hertha, while they now sit just three points behind the Berlin-based club who are third.

Hazard, 23, brother of Chelsea's Eden, has won only one cap for Belgium but has not given up hope of making this summer's tournament in France following his impressive display at the weekend.

"I know that my chances of making the squad are bigger if I play well here," he told reporters. "But I did not think about it [today]. I only wanted to put in a good performance and win."

Hazard joined Gladbach on a permanent contract until 2020 ahead of this season following a loan spell at the club from Chelsea in the 2014-15 campaign.

The €8 million forward failed to make an impact in the first half of the season so was delighted to play a big part in Sunday's victory.

"That win is a great thing for the team, but also for me," Hazard, who was named Man of the Matchday by kicker, said. "I haven't scored two goals in one match for a long time. I didn't convert all the chances today, but it did not drag me down and I stayed focused."
