Belgium's Vincent Kompany out of Wales tie, injured for up to 12 days

Vincent Kompany will miss Belgium's Euro 2016 qualifier against Wales with a calf problem that could keep him sidelined for up to 12 days.

Manchester City captain Kompany, 28, suffered the injury in City's 2-1 Champions League defeat to CSKA Moscow last week and underwent a scan in Manchester on Monday.

Belgium coach Marc Wilmots has since confirmed that his skipper will join fellow centre-back Thomas Vermaelen in missing Sunday's clash with Group B leaders Wales.

"I received a call from Vincent earlier," he told RTBF. "He is out for Manchester City for 10 to 12 days, so is unavailable for Sunday. It's a shame but there is no problem, there are only solutions."

It means Kompany, who was forced to sit out City's 2-2 draw against Queen Parks Rangers on Saturday, is a doubt for the Premier League game against Swansea on Nov. 22.

The centre-back also faces a race to be fit for City's Champions League clash against Group E leaders Bayern Munich three days later.

The Premier League champions are already certain to be without the suspended Yaya Toure and Fernandinho, as well as the injured Aleksandar Kolarov, for the meeting with Pep Guardiola's side, while David Silva and Edin Dzeko are both injury doubts.
