Belgium may rest Thibaut Courtois for Andorra clash due to head injury

Belgium are willing to rest Thibaut Courtois for the Euro 2016 qualifier against Andorra on Friday as the Chelsea goalkeeper continues to recover from the head injury he suffered in the 2-0 victory against Arsenal.

Courtois was forced to come off during Sunday's clash after colliding with Alexis Sanchez and was taken to hospital for precautionary tests afterwards.

The 22-year-old was released on Sunday night, but he will still undergo some extra tests at Chelsea's training ground on Wednesday before he joins up with the Belgium squad.

According to The Times, the Blues would rather their player not return to action so soon after the injury, but accept Red Devils boss Marc Wilmots has the final decision.

Wilmots, however, is relaxed about the situation and is willing to play Liverpool's Simon Mignolet instead should Courtois not be deemed fit enough, with Chelsea's goalkeeper then likely to start in Monday's qualifier against Bosnia-Herzegovina.

"He leaves tomorrow morning but still has an extra scan" Wilmots told a news conference on Tuesday. "When he gets here tomorrow night, there is still no problem for Friday.

"Chelsea just want security and I understand them. He is almost completely recovered, but not fully. Besides, even if he cannot play, we can play Simon Mignolet."

Elsewhere, Eden Hazard will have a scan on a toe injury on Wednesday, while Toby Alderweireld has a slight knock.

"I do not expect any major problems," Wilmots added.
