Nine arrested in Belgian football fraud, match-fixing scandal

Belgian prosecutors said on Friday that they had charged 19 people, including two referees, agents and the coach of champions Brugge, with fraud or match-fixing.

Three days after an operation targeting nine Belgian clubs, and raids in seven countries, the charges filed include belonging to a criminal organisation, match-fixing, money-laundering and corruption, federal prosecutor's spokeswoman Wenke Roggen said.

Belgian authorities charge five people in fraud, match-fixing investigation

Belgian authorities charged five people on Thursday in relation to a fraud and possible match-fixing probe relating to the country's top division.

Four were charged with belonging to a criminal organisation and corruption, while a fifth person was charged with money laundering. Prosecutors said match-fixing allegations centered on the relegation battle from the top division last season and did not involve a major club.

Belgian police raid leading football clubs over match-fixing links

Belgian police have carried out a series of raids at football clubs and homes across the country on Wednesday, detaining several people for questioning about financial fraud and possible match-fixing, Belgian prosecutors said.

A total of 44 searches were carried out at top Belgian clubs and residences, federal prosecutors said in a statement. At the same time, searches of 13 houses also took place in France, Luxembourg, Cyprus, Montenegro, Serbia and Macedonia.

Barcelona expect Moussa Wague visa decision, debut by end of month - sources

Barcelona midfielder Ivan Rakitic lauded teammate Lionel Messi, after the Argentine was pivotal for the Catalans in their 4-2 win over Tottenham.

Senegal international Moussa Wague should be able to make his debut for Barcelona's B team later this month after a delay in obtaining his visa, sources confirmed to ESPN FC.

Wague, 20, joined Barca in August from KAS Eupen after impressing at the World Cup. He became the youngest player to ever score for Senegal when he did so against Japan.

His performances for Senegal and Eupen earned him a place among the 40 nominees for the Golden Boy award for 2018.

Mexico's Omar Govea joins Royal Antwerp on loan from Porto

Mexico midfielder Omar Govea has signed for Royal Antwerp on a one-season loan from Porto, the the Belgian club confirmed on Thursday.

The 22-year-old was on loan with Royal Excel Mouscron last season and impressed, earning a call-up to the Mexico squad last November and then again in the March friendlies earlier this year.

Govea's agreement includes a purchase option and the San Luis Potosi native could debut as early as Sunday, when Antwerp takes on Club Brugge.
