Bayern Munich keeper Manuel Neuer back in training ahead of Liverpool clash

Bayern Munich goalkeeper Manuel Neuer has trained for the first time since Thursday, easing fears he could miss the Champions League clash with Liverpool due to a thumb injury.

Neuer, 32, sat out the weekend's 3-1 defeat to Bayer Leverkusen with understudy Sven Ulreich replacing him, but returned to training on Tuesday and should be fit to face Jurgen Klopp's side on Feb. 19.

"The thumb [Neuer's] is really fat, but in one or two days things should look different and he could be able to play,' Ulreich said on Saturday. "Of course, I was happy to be able to play again, but it was bitter news for Manuel."

Bayern boss Nico Kovac also suggested that Neuer would be back before long.

"Manuel is so far, so good," he said. "I think he wants to play immediately but we need the all-clear from the doctors, which we haven't had yet. We can't say anything concrete regarding tomorrow -- we have to wait until after training."

Bayern forward Thomas Muller is suspended for both legs of the round-of-16 clash against Liverpool.

Muller was sent off in Bayern's final group match in December when, in attempting to bring down a high ball, his high boot caught Ajax defender Nicolas Tagliafico on the back of the head.
