Bayern Munich's Jerome Boateng a 'colourful bird' - Karl-Heinz Rummenigge

Karl-Heinz Rummenigge has described Jerome Boateng as a "colourful bird" and told the defender the door to his office is "always open."

Boateng, 30, came close to leaving Bayern Munich this summer, with Paris Saint-Germain interested in signing him. However, the deal collapsed as both clubs were not able to agree on a transfer fee.

Boateng was criticised by Rummenigge, with the Bayern CEO accusing the central defender of caring more about fashion than football in 2016.

In an interview with Suddeutsche Zeitung on Wednesday, Boateng insisted he is fully focused on the German champions and wants to hold talks with the club's hierarchy over what he perceived was a lack of support following Germany's World Cup elimination and the summer transfer speculation.

"Uli Hoeness' office and mine are always open," Rummenigge said on Sky at the side of the Champions League at Benfica. "He'll get an espresso or a water or whatever he wants. And then he can talk, no problem at all.

"Jerome is certainly someone you'd call a colourful bird. He knows that he's an important player for us, and that's why at the end of the day we did not give him away to Paris.

"Things were handled seriously between all parties."
