Bayern Munich yellow cards show lack of discipline vs. Besiktas - Heynckes

Bayern Munich boss Jupp Heynckes expressed disappointment at his team picking up too many bookings in a 3-1 Champions League win against Besiktas, despite making history by becoming the first coach to win 11 successive European matches.

Thiago Alcantara opened the scoring on 18 minutes, tapping home an inch-perfect Thomas Muller cross. The German champions doubled their lead immediately after the break when Besiktas defender Gokhan Gonul inadvertently turned in a Rafinha cross into his own net.

Brazil striker Vagner Love scored a consolation goal for the home side just before the hour mark as Bayern conceded for the 11th Champions League game in succession on away soil. However, substitute Sandro Wagner restored Bayern's two-goal advantage with six minutes remaining, chesting in a deflected David Alaba cross from close range to reach the final 8-1 aggregate scoreline.

Central defenders Mats Hummels and Jerome Boateng were both booked for Bayern in the first half, while right-back Rafinha, deputising for Joshua Kimmich, was cautioned after an hour for a late tackle on Ricardo Quaresma.

"I warned before the game that we needed to stay disciplined and not allow ourselves to be provoked by their physicality," Heynckes told Sky.

"That's the only negative tonight, that we picked up too many yellow cards."

Heynckes had told reporters before the game he was not overly concerned with breaking the record for most consecutive wins in the competition.

"That doesn't mean a lot," he said. "I'm more interested in my team winning, playing well and continuing their development."

Summing up win No. 11 in a row, he said: "It was a convincing result. Besiktas hadn't lost at home in the Champions League so it's not easy here. We scored at the right times and were leading 7-0 on aggregate. It's perfectly normal that our intensity dropped off a little."

After opening the scoring, Spain international Thiago had to be replaced by James Rodriguez on 35 minutes, but Heynckes didn't think the injury was too serious.

"I don't think Thiago will be out for a long time," he said. "He felt some pain under the sole of his foot. We will have to wait for the result of a [scan] tomorrow."

Bayern's resounding win on aggregate seals their spot in a seventh-successive Champions League quarterfinal with the draw set to take place on Friday.
