Ancelotti pleased with Bayern win: 'We played well with good intensity'

Carlo Ancelotti praised Bayern Munich after the Bundesliga champions returned to winning ways with a comfortable 4-0 victory over Mainz.

After a 2-0 loss in Hoffenheim last Saturday -- their earliest defeat in a season since 2011 -- Bayern bounced back on the day the Oktoberfest celebrations got under way in Munich and went second in the table.

Thomas Muller and Arjen Robben bagged their first league goals of the season in the first half before top scorer Robert Lewandowski, on his 100th Bundesliga appearance for the club, added two second-half goals.

Speaking at his postmatch news conference, Ancelotti said: "We played well with good intensity and were able to kill the game off.

"The movement of our four attacking players was good, and they combined well.

"Of course, when we missed two or three chances when we were leading 1-0 the game could have become more complicated, but after we scored the second goal, we continued to play and press.

"We didn't concede any opportunities apart from two or three situations where our passing was not so clean. After that, it was important for us to move well up front."

Following his 97th goal for the club, Muller told Sky: "Of course we had set our stall out to play well and make a statement of intent. We have to try and take this momentum into our next games."

Two-goal Lewandowski echoed Muller's sentiment, saying: "When we are as flexible as this on the pitch, it's difficult for any opponent to stop us," he said.
