Bayern Munich's Uli Hoeness must avoid 'skirmishes' - Mattias Sammer

Matthias Sammer has said Uli Hoeness must try to avoid "skirmishes" after returning as Bayern Munich president.

Hoeness, 65, was re-elected as Bayern president in November after serving a prison sentence for tax evasion.

But the outspoken president has ruffled feathers, claiming the Bavarians outsmarted other teams by flying to Qatar for their winter training camp instead of "freezing" in Spain and Portugal.

He also described Leipzig as Bayern's new enemies, a comment for which he later apologised, and took swipes at Borussia Dortmund.

"He's back with full force. But it can't be all skirmishes," Sammer told Eurosport. "He also has a social responsibility.

"It's dangerous [to get involved in rows] and by no means is part of the business. You just don't treat each other that way."

Sammer, 49, left his post as Bayern sporting executive in the summer after suffering a brain illness earlier in 2016.

He said he believed he had made the right decision and added: "I am delighted and happy to have made the decision to stop working at Bayern.

"There is a life beside football, with other themes. I no longer wanted to work 24/7."
