Bayern Munich extend winger Franck Ribery's contract until summer 2018

Bundesliga champions Bayern Munich have extended Franck Ribery's contract by a year until 2018, they announced on Sunday.

Ribery's previous deal was due to expire in the summer but the Frenchman, who arrived from Marseille in 2007, will continue wearing a Bayern shirt through to the following summer.

"I'm delighted to be able to play on another year for Bayern," the 33-year-old told the club's official website.

"This amazing club and the city have become my home, both sportingly and privately.

"I am really looking forward to even more beautiful times together with the Bayern fans and I would like to play my part in ensuring that the next year and a half will be successful."

Ribery has made 333 appearances for Bayern, scoring 108 goals.

He was named UEFA's Best Player in Europe in 2013, when he also won the Champions League with the Bavarians.

"Six Bundesliga titles, five DFB-Pokals, the Champions League, the FIFA Club World Cup and UEFA Super Cup -- Bayern's great successes in recent years have been synonymous with the name Franck Ribery," chairman Karl-Heinz Rummenigge said.

"He is a key player and a fans' favourite rolled into one. We are therefore delighted that we have been able to extend Franck's contract by another year."

Meanwhile, Rummenigge told supporters at a fans' event that he was hopeful Arjen Robben would also sign a one-year extension.

Robben's deal is due to expire at the end of the season and Bayern have spoken to the 32-year-old about adding to the deal.

"He wants to wait until Christmas, but there is nothing to suggest we will not agree a one-year renewal with him as well. I think things will work out," Rummenigge said.
