Bayern Munich's Philipp Lahm can play on for four more years - Javi Martinez

Bayern Munich's Javi Martinez says Philipp Lahm should shelve his plans to retire in 2018 or earlier and carry on playing until 2020.

Lahm, 33, has recently hinted that he could bring an end to his playing career this summer after previously stating that his current contract, which expires in 2018, will be his last.

"He still looks so young and fresh," Martinez told Bild. "He's not going to retire, I don't believe that. Philipp's got to carry on playing. Philipp can manage another four years.

"Seriously -- I played with Aritz Aduriz at Athletic Bilbao and he's now 35 and still plays like a young lad. Nobody cares about age in football."

Lahm, who retired from international football after lifting the World Cup with Germany in 2014, may choose not to heed Martinez's advice.

He has been backed by Bayern chairman Karl-Heinz Rummenigge to become the German champions' sporting director when he ends his playing career.

"He's respected by everybody -- by the players, the bosses, the fans and even by the journalists -- he's very responsible too so why not?" Martinez said about Lahm's future prospects.

Meanwhile, Martinez laughed off suggestions by Sevilla midfielder Samir Nasri that former Bayern coach Pep Guardiola has strict rules stating players must not have sex after midnight.

"Pep never said that to us in the dressing room, or perhaps if he did say it, I didn't want to listen," Martinez said. "But that doesn't bother me -- I'm usually asleep before 12 anyway."
