Robert Lewandowski happy to end goals drought with brace vs. Augsburg

Robert Lewandowski ended his Bundesliga scoring drought with a goal in each half as Bayern Munich maintained their two points at the top-of-the-table with a comfortable 3-1 win at Augsburg.

After five league games without a goal, Lewandowski opened the scoring in the 19th minute, latching on to an Arjen Robben through ball to end his dry spell in front of goal after 480 minutes.

The Poland striker returned the compliment for Robben to double the Bavarians' lead 120 seconds later with a close-range tap-in.

Three minutes after the interval, Lewandowski added his seventh Bundesliga goal of the season from a narrow angle, once again fed by the Netherlands skipper.

Ja-Cheol Koo reduced the arrears on 67 minutes, but it proved no more than a consolation for the overwhelmed home side.

"I'm pleased I managed to score again," Lewandowski told Sky Deutschland. "I was feeling very good today and was ready to give it everything to get the three points.

"I knew that I would go through a phase of not scoring for two or three games. Last season was really long, especially with the European championships at the end.

Speaking about his partnership with Arjen Robben, Lewandowski said: "We combined really well together, not just our goals and assists for the team," he said. "I have great respect for the way Robben plays."

Earlier this week, Bayern CEO Karl-Heinz Rummenigge revealed that a deal to extend Lewandowski's time in Bavaria was "looking good."

And the Poland striker confirmed that he "still hadn't signed a new contract" to stay at the German champions, before adding: "I don't think it will be long, but we still need to be patient.

"I don't know when exactly, but I can confirm that the contract is shorter than my present deal."

Lewandowski, 28, signed a five-year deal when joining Bayern on a free transfer from Borussia Dortmund in 2014.
