Julian Green to give way to Robert Lewandowski in Bayern lineup

Carlo Ancelotti has praised Julian Green after his first Bayern Munich goal in midweek, but the U.S. international striker is set to make way for Robert Lewandowski against Augsburg in the club's second Bavarian derby in four days.

Ancelotti made eight changes for the 3-1 cup victory in midweek, handing the Florida-born striker a home debut in place of last season's Bundesliga top scorer Lewandowski. The 21-year-old rewarded Ancelotti's faith with a fine glancing header to double the lead four minutes before the break.

Speaking at the news conference ahead of the short trip to Augsburg, Ancelotti said: "Green played very well. He worked extremely hard which was good for us. Everyone is pleased for him because he's a great professional."

But Ancelotti hinted that Green's goal would not be enough to earn him a Bayern debut in the Bundesliga -- with Lewandowski in line to reclaim his starting berth.

"The players that didn't play against on Wednesday, will play tomorrow," the manager said.

Lewandowski hasn't scored in the Bundesliga for five games (463 minutes), while fellow attacker Thomas Muller has yet to find the net in just over 11 hours (661 minutes).

But Ancelotti said he was unperturbed by the duo's present dry spell in front of goal.

"For me it's unimportant whether Lewandowski or Muller score goals," he said. "The important thing is that they perform well for the team. Naturally, it's vital for a striker to score goals, but not for me. The crucial thing for me is that the team scores goals."

And Ancelotti also confirmed that Lewandowski will assume penalty duties after Muller missed from the spot in midweek.

"Lewandowski will take penalties from now on, but Muller didn't have any problems in the past taking penalties," Ancelotti said.

"It's not a problem, sometimes you miss. Anyway, we have a lot of penalty takers in [Xabi] Alonso, Arjen Robben, Thiago and [Arturo] Vidal."

And speaking of the Chile international, Ancelotti added that "Vidal is fit to play," making Franck Ribery and Rafinha the only players ruled out for Saturday.

"Kingsley Coman has a slight knock, so we will wait to see what happens in training," Ancelotti said.
