Holger Badstuber overwhelmed by welcome from Bayern Munich fans

Holger Badstuber said he got "goosebumps" when the Bayern Munich crowd welcomed him back from injury after 259 days on Wednesday.

Badstuber received a rapturous reception when he came on to replace fellow Germany international Mats Hummels for the final 10 minutes of the 3-1 home victory over Augsburg on Wednesday.

"It's pure emotion," the defender told German broadcaster ARD after the DFB Pokal tie.

"When the fans welcome you like that, it really gives you goosebumps. It's unforgettable and simply amazing."

The 27-year-old has endured five serious injuries since 2012 and had two cruciate ligament operations.

He had not played since breaking an ankle in February and then suffered a muscle tear during the club's preseason tour of the United States.

Badstuber added: "I've decided this is my final comeback. I have complete faith in my body.

"I've received many welcomes like this, but I enjoy and appreciate them all. Naturally I want to repay the fans.

"Of course I have to soak up the atmosphere as much as possible as it's the nicest thing about football."

Boss Carlo Ancelotti was also delighted to have the popular Badstuber available once again.

"It's great that he is back after such a long time out," Ancelotti said. "He's another quality player who's important for the team and in good condition."
