Bayern's Jerome Boateng 'couldn't eat for two days' after UCL loss to Chelsea

Jerome Boateng could not eat for two days after Bayern Munich's Champions League final loss to Chelsea in 2012, the defender told ESPN FC in an interview with Raphael Honigstein.

Boateng, 28, came in for criticism after losing Didier Drogba on a corner as Chelsea levelled to make it 1-1 and force their meeting at the Allianz Arena into extra time.

Bayern went on to lose the match at their home stadium 4-3 on penalties, despite having dominated much of the game against their Premier League opponents.

"I couldn't eat for two days straight after that, it hurt so much," Boateng said.

Regarding Drogba's goal, the Germany centre-back added: "It was a training ground move. Somebody -- I think it was [Branislav] Ivanovic -- blocked me off the ball, so I had no chance of getting to Drogba in time.

"There's not a lot you can do about it if it's done that well. In any case, we had enough chances to win the game before and after that. It wasn't only my fault."

This season, Bayern are currently on a run of three matches without a win, but Boateng is confident that the side will turn it around.

He said: "It's not the end of the world, it's not a crisis. But at Bayern, we have higher aspirations, we demand more of ourselves. We cannot be happy when we don't win three games in a row and don't play well.

"I believe all of us -- and I include myself in that -- have to work a lot harder, show more aggression on the pitch and have the right attitude from the very first moment."

Raphael Honigstein's full interview with Jerome Boateng will be published on ESPN FC on Wednesday.
