Bayern Munich and Germany's Mats Hummels looking to become a coach

Bayern Munich defender Mats Hummels is eyeing a coaching career when he retires from the game.

Hummels, 27, rejoined the German champions in the summer for a fee of €35 million after eight-and-a-half years at Borussia Dortmund.

Hummels played for all of Bayern's youth teams before opting to join Jurgen Klopp at Dortmund, initially on loan and then permanently in 2009.

"I have an increasing desire to go into coaching," Hummels told Playboy. "With that I don't mean immediately working in the Bundesliga, but maybe as a youth coach. We'll see -- two or three years ago I had totally ruled coaching out as a career."

The 2014 World Cup winner is also convinced that German teams will be a force in this season's Champions League.

"There's absolutely no danger that German teams won't be competitive. Furthermore, I feel that Bundesliga sides will be even stronger this season," Hummels said.

As well as Bayern and his former club Dortmund, Bayer Leverkusen and Borussia Monchengladbach fly the flag for Germany in Europe's elite club competition.

Hummels added: "Of course, Spanish teams have totally dominated European football in recent years, but Bayern have reached the Champions League semifinals three years in a row.

"And we even had an all-German final in 2013."
