Carlo Ancelotti: Bayern Munich 'can compete with anyone in Europe'

Bayern Munich coach Carlo Ancelotti is enjoying life in the Bundesliga and said "the ambience and atmosphere" are different compared with former club Real Madrid.

Ancelotti was upset by the pressure created by "journalists, radio and television stations" in the Spanish capital and is enjoying a more relaxed atmosphere in Bavaria.

"At Real, the pressure comes from the outside," Ancelotti told L'Equipe. "You feel it enormously. Inside the club, though, there is little pressure.

"In Germany, the ambience and atmosphere is different. Also, I get the impression there are fewer radio and television stations."

Bayern are expected to challenge for the Champions League title this season, but Ancelotti is mindful of facing former sides Real and Paris Saint-Germain, as well as Barcelona and Manchester City, in the latter stages of the competition.

"No!" he responded when asked about a Real return with his new side. "I would not like to face Real, Barcelona or PSG. However, we can compete with any side.

"Real, Barcelona, Manchester City and PSG. I would prefer to face them in the semis or a final. Not before."

Ancelotti left PSG for Real in the summer of 2013 and the three-time Champions League winner admitted he still keeps tabs on the French champions and believes they are "a serious rival" in Europe.

Laurent Blanc replaced Ancelotti and enjoyed immense success in his three years in Paris before being replaced himself this summer

"I think the club thought to change something," Ancelotti said. "In the dressing room, you cannot change too many players, so it was the easiest thing [to change the manager].

"I can understand the club's reasoning but if you ask me if [Blanc] deserved to be sacked, no, he did not," he added. "Laurent did a good job. However, I understand a club that wants to change something and gets a new coach with a different approach in the search for something different."

Ancelotti was impressed with PSG's new boss, Unai Emery, from their past encounters in La Liga.

"He is a very, very tactical coach," the Bayern boss said. "He is very good and I am sure that he will do a great job. He has won the Europa League three times with a team that was not a top side.

"I think PSG have also had some early season problems but don't forget that they lost a player who scored a lot of goals."

PSG's Italian midfielder Marco Verratti has frequently been linked with moves to reunite with Ancelotti and the coach continues to keep an eye on the player.

"Marco is a great player," he said. "Verratti is always surprising to watch. He worried me many times but he is unique in his style. He has a bright future ahead of him that is for sure."

Informed of Verratti's recent contract extension until 2021, Ancelotti called it a logical move from the Ligue 1 giants but was taken aback by the length of the new deal before admitting a move is "impossible!"

"That is normal," he said of the extension. "Good players will stay with good teams. Until when? Two thousand and... Wow!"
