Bayern Munich's Douglas Costa suffers injury setback against Ingolstadt

Bayern Munich's Douglas Costa suffered a new injury setback as the Bundesliga champions returned to the top of the table with a 3-1 win at home to Ingolstadt at the weekend.

Costa breathed new life into what had been a stuttering Bayern performance, playing a part in the buildup as Xabi Alonso put Bayern 2-1 in front five minutes after the break.

But the Brazilian winger was replaced by Jerome Boateng with seven minutes remaining after pulling his right thigh muscle.

Bayern have not yet confirmed how long Costa will be sidelined for, with the 26-year-old having only just returned to action after problems with his left thigh.

He had played his first game since the DFB Pokal final in May when he came on as a substitute in the 2-0 win at Schalke.

Boateng made a return after tearing a muscle in Germany's Euro 2016 semifinal defeat to France in July, and coach Carlo Ancelotti was happy to have Germany's Footballer of the Year back.

"He's our most important defender," the Italian said.

"It's crucial he's back to help the team and prevent the problems that we had on Saturday."

Meanwhile, Renato Sanches' difficult start to his Bayern career continued as he was substituted with half an hour remaining after winning only 25 percent of his challenges.
