Carlo Ancelotti grants Bayern Munich players extra day at home

Bayern Munich boss Carlo Ancelotti has defended his decision to hand his players an extra day at home before flying on the day of the game to face Schalke on Friday, but cautioned them against staying up too late with the PlayStation.

Bayern haven't lost a single away game in the league this year, their last defeat coming against Borussia Monchengladbach in December 2015.

Bayern beat Schalke on both occasions last season and haven't lost in Gelsenkirchen since December 2010.

The German champions have traditionally travelled to away games a day in advance, but Ancelotti said: "It's better for the players to stay home tonight with their families and kids, instead of in a hotel doing nothing."

"The players are really professional and serious," he said at a news conference ahead of Bayern's opening Bundesliga away game on Friday.

"We arrive in Gelsenkirchen around midday and we have all afternoon to prepare for the game. Anyway, the game is already prepped, we only have to travel. The team is ready to play their best."

Under previous bosses, Bayern have opted to enjoy overnight hotel stays even when playing in Munich, and Ancelotti was also asked about his plans for home games at the Allianz Arena.

"If we kick off at 1530 CET, we'll usually go to the hotel only on the morning of the game," he said.

"I don't want the players playing too much PlayStation."

Joshua Kimmich is set to be left out of Bayern Munich's team with Ancelotti concerned about overdoing things with the 21-year-old.

Kimmich scored his first goal for Germany in a 3-0 win over Norway last Sunday and Ancelotti now has other options at his disposal in midfield, which is why he favours giving Kimmich a rest on Friday.

Bayern get their Champions League campaign underway at home to Rostov on Tuesday and the Germany international now appears more likely to feature in that game.

"Kimmich is a fortunate player in that he can play in many positions, but probably I am going to rotate,'' Ancelotti said."I don't want to burn my players out straight away. He will get his chance and I'm going to need all of my players.''

With Kimmich likely to be rested, Renato Sanches could make his Bundesliga debut.

"He could start tomorrow, but I first need to check on the position of Arturo Vidal," said Ancelotti of his options to partner Xabi Alonso in midfield.

"Sanches is 100 percent fit. Arturo has just returned [from international duty] today and I think he will fly with us to Schalke, but I don't know yet if he's too tired or if he can play.''
