Bayern Munich tighten security ahead of new Bundesliga season

Bayern Munich have tightened security measures ahead of the 2016-17 Bundesliga campaign which kicks off with a home game against Werder Bremen on Friday.

All bottles, thermos flasks and liquids are banned, while handbags and backpacks --larger than A4 size -- are also not allowed to be brought into the 75,000 capacity Allianz Arena.

A sell-out crowd is expected for the season-opener, which will also mark new coach Carlo Ancelotti's debut game in the Bundesliga.

"These measures are already in place for other large events, such as concerts and exhibitions, and serve to enhance the safety of every fan," the club said in a press release.

The club have asked fans not to take these belongings into the stadium due to storage facilities being limited.

The measures have been introduced following an attack last month on a shopping mall to the north of Munich in which nine people were killed.
