Bayern Munich defender Badstuber set to make comeback from injury

Bayern Munich boss Carlo Ancelotti has revealed that Holger Badstuber is set to make his return from injury against AC Milan on Wednesday.

Badstuber, 27, has been recovering from the broken ankle he suffered in mid-February, which kept him out of Euro 2016.

"Badstuber is doing well after his injury," Ancelotti said at his news conference before Bayern's friendly against his former club in Chicago. "This is not a surprise because I know Badstuber is a serious and professional player."

The Germany international has been back on the training ground since May but is still some way short of full match fitness.

"Of course he needs to improve his condition, but I think his injury is gone," Ancelotti said. "Tomorrow, I think he can start, but he won't play the whole match. Maybe 30 or 40 minutes."

The defender has struggled with injuries ever since tearing his anterior cruciate ligaments in December 2012 and only made nine appearances last season.

He faces tough competition for a centre-back spot at Bayern, up against Jerome Boateng and Mats Hummels, who was added to the club this summer.
