Pep Guardiola shifts focus to Atletico after Bayern miss chance to seal title

Bayern Munich coach Pep Guardiola quickly shifted focus to the Champions League after Borussia Monchengladbach denied his side the chance to wrap up the Bundesliga title on Saturday.

Andre Hahn equalised after Thomas Muller's effort to earn Gladbach a 1-1 draw which moved them up to fourth in the table and meant Bayern still need two points to be mathematically sure of a 25th Bundesliga title.

"Gladbach are a very good team," Guardiola said. "They play very good football so they deserve a big compliment.

"Of course we wanted to win today and we started the game well, but we still need a point for the title and now is the time to focus on Atletico Madrid.

"Tuesday's game is going to be totally different and of course we're going to have to play better then."

Bayern would have preferred to go into that game having already clinched the domestic title, but they instead know they still have work to do -- and not only on Tuesday night, when they will bid to overturn a 1-0 defeat from the first leg to reach the final of the Champions League.

They must also beat Ingolstadt next weekend to ensure the race for the title does not go down to the final day of the season, although there will be time to think about that game from Wednesday.

"We're going to have to be on fire on Tuesday," said Muller, who was left out of the starting XI for the first leg last week but was restored to the team by Guardiola on Saturday and responded with his 20th goal of the season.

"We put a lot into this game and it hurts twice as much when you lead 1-0 and then concede in such an intense match."

One of the main positives for Guardiola was the return to action of Jerome Boateng after more than three months on the sidelines through injury.

"It was pretty good and very important for me to get some minutes under my belt today," Boateng said on his club's website. "Match practice is important as it's different to training.

"It's just a pity because we wanted to celebrate the title with our fans today, but we didn't manage it unfortunately.

"Now we've got to turn our attention to Tuesday and give it all we've got then."
