Bayern Munich's Arturo Vidal will not be charged over DFB Pokal dive

Arturo Vidal will not face retrospective action for his dive to win a penalty in the DFB Pokal semifinal win over Werder Bremen, the German FA has said.

On Tuesday, Vidal's histrionics following a Janek Sternberg challenge won Bayern a 70th-minute penalty -- which was converted by Thomas Muller to complete a 2-0 victory.

Referee Tobias Stieler later apologised for awarding the penalty, saying "I saw contact, but there was none."

On Wednesday, the German FA said that no action would be taken against the Chile international because the referee had seen the incident.

"The referee observed the course of events and assessed it," the DFB said in a statement, adding that its disciplinary process did not allow any further action.

But Bayern CEO Karl-Heinz Rummenigge has warned Vidal against unsporting behaviour.

"The referee's decision [to give the penalty] sadly was wrong," he said. "Bayern are not necessarily known for producing dives. It's not what FC Bayern wants."

But the club chief added that "in general he is a fair player," and warned to not "overstate the issue now."

Bayern will meet Borussia Dortmund in the final of the DFB Pokal at the Olympiastadion in Berlin on May 21.
