Bayern Munich forward Thomas Muller: I had offers from other clubs

Thomas Muller has said that he had offers from other clubs before putting pen to paper on a new deal at Bayern Munich last year.

Muller, 26, was one of four players to sign a new contract days before the announcement that coach Pep Guardiola would be leaving in the summer.

The Germany international, who has scored a career-best 15 goals this season, was a target for Manchester United last summer when the Red Devils were reportedly ready to pay more than €100 million for him.

In an interview with Munich daily Abendzeitung, Muller said: "Yes, there were offers. But looking at the footballing side, we are in the top three in Europe alongside Barcelona and Madrid."

Since Muller became a permanent fixture in Bayern's first team squad in the 2009-10 season, the club have won the Champions League and reached a further two finals.

In that time, Chelsea and Manchester United were the only English clubs to reach the final, with the former beating Bayern at the Allianz Arena to win the trophy in 2012.

Muller added: "England might have the money -- but we'll see if they will return to the top of Europe because of that. It was easy to prolong my contract here from a sporting point of view."

Bayern had not been willing to let Muller go, and CEO Karl-Heinz Rummenigge said in October: "I am not a banker. We are a football club. That is why we never even considered selling Thomas Muller."
