Bayern Munich taking their time over renewing Pep Guardiola's contract

Bayern Munich chairman Karl-Heinz Rummenigge is still in no rush to hold talks with coach Pep Guardiola over signing a new contract, although he is more confident than ever that the Catalan will commit to the club.

Sunday's 5-1 win over Borussia Dortmund saw Bayern open up a seven-point lead at the top of the Bundesliga with just eight games of the season gone.

No side have ever been so far in front at such an early stage of the campaign and Rummenigge believes that is a reason for Guardiola wanting to stay in Munich.

However, the Bayern chief says he is not going to put any pressure on the 44-year-old to sign a new deal, with his current contract set to expire at the end of the season.

"I've always said that we would sit down in the second half of 2015, and that leaves us still a few months,'' Rummenigge is quoted as saying by Sport1.de. "There's a lot on the table which is pro-Bayern, and a game like this one is bound to make the coach happy too."

Bayern's honorary president Franz Beckenbauer has already spoken to Guardiola about his future, telling him he would be happy if he were to extend his deal beyond the summer.

"You should never separate what belongs together,'' Beckenbauer told Sky Sport Deutschland. "It's just a perfect fit. He's very talkative and witty. His training sessions are like a show. His players could get a pass to their teammates with a blindfold on."

Guardiola recently left a news conference when pressed on his future, saying that he has already said everything he has to say on the subject.
