Robert Lewandowski focused on results for Bayern Munich not records

In-form Bayern Munich striker Robert Lewandowski says it is too soon to talk about him breaking the Bundesliga record for the most goals scored in a single season.

Lewandowksi, 27, already has a league record nine goals in his past three matches after scoring a brace in a 5-1 victory over his former club Borussia Dortmund on Sunday.

The Poland international, who scored all five goals in another 5-1 home win against Wolfsburg last month, has now found the net 12 times after eight league games -- something only Gerd Muller and Christian Muller have achieved before.

Legendary former Bayern and West Germany forward Muller holds the current single-season goalscoring record, having netted a remarkable 40 times in the 1971-72 season.

Lewandowksi would surpass Muller's total if he keeps scoring at his current rate but he insists the thought has not crossed his mind.

"It's still way too early to be thinking about that," he told the Bundesliga's official website.

Lewandowski was quick to praise his teammates but he finds it hard to explain his explosive recent scoring streak.

"It's a combination of everything," he said. "I got two more goals but at the moment I'm not thinking about how many I've scored.

"It's far more important that we picked up another three points. I know that I can help the team with my goals but we win as a team."

Franz Beckenbauer, a former teammate of Muller's, believes that Lewandowski is benefitting from injuries to wingers Franck Ribery and Arjen Robben.

Bayern coach Pep Guardiola has already noted that, with new signing Douglas Costa in the team, his side are getting more crosses in this season to help Lewandowski.

And Beckenbauer, 70, believes that Ribery and Robben's style of play made Lewandowski's first season in Munich more difficult than it might have been.

"Lewandowski is coming into play a lot better compared to last season," Beckenbauer told Sky Germany. "Robben and Ribery used to dribble and finish themselves.

"They only passed to him if they didn't know where to go with the ball. Now he's much better integrated."
