Pep Guardiola leaves Bayern news conference after England question

Bayern Munich coach Pep Guardiola walked out of a news conference when asked about his chances of becoming the next England manager.

Guardiola, 44, said "I am the coach at FC Bayern" before leaving.

The coach is in the final season of his three-year contract at Bayern, and had previously said talks would take place later this year.

Club officials are hopeful that he will put pen to paper on a new deal, and CEO Karl-Heinz Rummenigge confirmed that negotiations would begin in the next few weeks.

When Guardiola was asked about those talks, he replied: "Next question, please."

Soon afterwards, a reporter mentioned a story in British newspaper The Sun which claimed Guardiola could become the next England manager should Roy Hodgson fail at the European Championships in France next year.

The coach said: "Come on, next question. Next question, please. No. I am the coach at FC Bayern. Thankyou," and then left.

Earlier this week, Hoffenheim coach Markus Gisdol was sent to the stands for arguing with the referee's assistant during the club's 1-1 draw with Borussia Dortmund, and claimed Guardiola had never been punished despite doing the same "10 times."

"I've talked to Markus. All is well. I don't think a Catalan coach has a bonus here," Guardiola said, adding that he "wants the best for everyone."

"I've never in my life directed a bad word at a referee. I have the greatest respect," he said.

The Bayern coach, who backs Catalan independence from Spain, has been accused of the "manipulation" of voters in regional elections after appearing in a pro-independence video.

The president of the Spanish Sports Council (CSD), Miguel Cardenal, made the claim -- but Guardiola said only: "I've voted yesterday. I've done my work."
