Bayern Munich star Xabi Alonso open to MLS or China moves

Bayern Munich midfielder Xabi Alonso has expressed an interest in playing in the United States or China, German football magazine kicker has reported.

Alonso, 33, told kicker earlier this week that his future is uncertain beyond the end of the season, when his contract with the Bundesliga champions expires.

The former Liverpool star said he had not ruled out remaining in Munich, but stressed he was "not wasting any thoughts on it at the moment."

Speaking to the same publication on Thursday, Alonso added: "If the club's happy with me, I could very well imagine staying here for a bit longer."

However, kicker said that the ex-Spain international had also indicated that he would otherwise be tempted by the prospect of playing in Major League Soccer or China when he leaves the Allianz Arena.

Meanwhile, with the majority of Bayern players away on international duty, Alonso was one of only four first-teamers to take part in a 3-1 friendly defeat at fourth-tier Jahn Regensburg on Thursday.

Bayern have only four players -- Manuel Neuer, Jerome Boateng, Mario Gotze and Thomas Muller -- with the Germany team, with youngster Joshua Kimmich featuring for the under-21s.

The number of non-Germans, especially Spanish-speaking players, in the Bayern team has led former Bayern boss Ottmar Hitzfeld to suggest the champions are losing their German identity.

But Alonso disputed that, saying: "The identity of the club is not in danger. We have a German foundation, and all others have to adapt -- and we all do that, every single one of us."
