Bayern Munich's Douglas Costa must cut out 'circus tricks' - Arjen Robben

Arjen Robben has warned Bayern Munich teammate Douglas Costa over his "circus tricks" following the Brazil international's antics towards the end of the 3-0 win against Bayer Leverkusen.

Costa, 24, who this summer joined Bayern from Shakhtar Donetsk, showed off his skills on Saturday when he flicked the ball over his and Leverkusen midfielder Julian Brandt's heads with his heel on the edge of the penalty area.

But while fans praised the midfielder for his technique, Robben later criticised him for not showing enough respect to his opponents.

"He's technically-versed, a typical Brazilian," he told Sky Deutschland. "But I also have to say, he needs to be careful. Many tricks are nice, but belong in the circus. You should never forget that you also have to show some respect for the opponent when you are 3-0 up."

Bayern coach Pep Guardiola, however, defended his player and said such tricks are part of his game.

"He's a Brazilian -- Neymar is just like that," he told a news conference. "Douglas is a good player, and an outstanding guy. He always respects the opponent."

Robben, meanwhile, was delighted with Bayern's third win of the season, especially after scoring the final goal of the night when converting his side's second penalty.

Bayern attacker Thomas Muller scored the other two, but waived the chance to net a hat trick and increase his season tally to six goals by allowing Robben to take the second spot-kick.

"He has very good chances to become the league's top scorer if he continues like that," Robben told kicker. "And I won't begrudge him that. Thomas is a super character, a good lad."
