Pep Guardiola won't 'directly' influence Bayern Munich transfers - Sammer

Bayern Munich sporting director Matthias Sammer has said no person is "bigger" than the Bundesliga champions.

Bayern are reflecting on their exit from the Champions League, after they lost 5-3 on aggregate to Barcelona in the semifinals.

The club have already clinched the league title but that has not stopped speculation surrounding the future of coach Pep Guardiola.

This week, Guardiola, whose contract expires in 2016, dismissed growing reports linking him with a summer switch to Manchester City.

It is set to be a decisive summer for the Bavarian side, as talks are to be held with Guardiola with an overhaul of the squad expected.

Players like Philipp Lahm, Bastian Schweinsteiger and Xabi Alonso are nearing the end of their careers, and so are injury-prone wingers Arjen Robben and Franck Ribery.

When asked how much influence Guardiola will have regarding signings on, Sammer said that every decision is made to serve the club.

"FC Bayern never bought players directly from a coach's wishlist," Sammer told ZDF TV.

"You always need to listen to a coach. But we need to act as FC Bayern. It was never dependent on a single person. In any case, FC Bayern is bigger than one person."
